This will open the doors (N5 E1) that would otherwise be closed. Make your way south through the darkness to another Magic Mouth (N2 E12) and answer it's riddle with 'Sinister'. First, go to the Magic Mouth (N10 E13) and answer it's riddle with 'Stone Golem'. Once in the Tower with a sword in hand, you will need to open a way to the Crystal Golem. The entrance to the room with a sword is protected by Jabberwock (N2 E21). ![]() You can find a Crystal Sword on Level 1 of the Harkyn's Castle (N0 E19). "Killing" the Golem with any other weapon will just cause him to reform and attack you again. To actually defeat the Crystal Golem you will need a special sword - Crystal Sword. On the Level 3 of the Castle you will find a teleport (N1 E21) that will take you to the tower. To get to the Tower, you will need to go through Harkyn's Castle. You will find the Crystal Golem in Kylearan's Amber Tower (N1 E4). Some dungeons will be better for this purpose (like Dargoth's Tower for example) but any will do. With such a party you can go to any dungeon you wish and just keep fighting till you have enough xp for your desired level. Afterwards, you can go to the Adventurer's Guild and exchange your mage for any character you want levelled. So, take only one mage and fill your party with the strongest summons you have. The easiest way to do this is to fill your party with summons, as they do not get a share of xp. However, if you are in a hurry or just really, really want that level, you can specifically set out to level one of your characters to 50. If you are playing all the parts of the game, use Full Power Transfer option between the parts and don't tend to run away from fights as you explore, you will hit level 50 on your starting characters naturally, no grinding or power-levelling necessary. I pull him out, add in 5 character (3 monks, 1 magician and 1 conjurer) until his instrument is used up and disappears on you, and replace him with a second conjurer.Pops up after you promote one of your characters to level 50 at the Review Board. Tip - The existing bard from the premade A-Team party has a wonderful instrument that really helps the starting battles in the game, when your party is likely to get wiped out. This should copy the iibt1 file to this folder. In the folder that opens, right click on an empty space, and select 'paste'. Select the 'Local Files' tab in the window that opens, and then 'Browse Local Files.'. In your steam application, locate 'The Bard's Tale' in your library, right click on it and select properties. %localappdata%\inXile entertainment\The Bard's TaleĪ folder should open, in which you should see a file named 'iibt1'. ![]() ![]() ![]() Paste this into your windows search bar and hit return: IF you delete the appdata folder, you'll probably also need to delete the iibt file to get it to recreate next time.įrom inXile's perspective, all they should need to do to fix this going forward is have BT2004 look in the correct place for iibt1. Simple fix, move (or create) iibt1 (no extension, 0 byte file) in steamapps\common\The Bards Taleįrom that point on, BT1 no longer overwrites the image files, and saves work fine. It's not looking in appdata for iibt1, it's looking in BT2004's root directory lol. Then, every time you launch BT1, it looks for that flag file, and if it doesn't find it, it re-extracts all the required files to your appdata folder, overwriting anything with the same name that's already there. It *also* creates a 0 byte flag file called iibt1. When you run BT1 for the first time, it extracts a bunch of required emulator files (config, images etc) to a folder in appdata. So it looks like the problem is really very simple. There is a trick to saving the game, as shown in the following posts from the Bards Tale 1 threads on the steam launcher site: The original trilogy had the following titles:Īnyone else used to play this 'dungeon crawler' series of games originally out in the 80's? It was good fun, and it has in more recent times been remastered so it can now be played on modern computers through the Steam system. It is rated T, and isn't in any way related to the original trilogy. NB There was a game released much after this original trilogy called 'The Bard's Tale'.
